The Essentials

What could be better than running water, clean clothes and a warm place to sleep.  We achieved all three this weekend.

With our new pump now providing pressurized water we were able to set up our washer and dryer.  It’s been three weeks with no clean laundry so it was great being able to wash clothes again. (I was getting down to my last pair of old ratty socks)

Since the weather has started to turn much colder, we have had to start using the furnace in the trailer.  But now we will be sleeping in warm comfort in our house.  The thermal qualities of our earth sheltered home are amazing.  It stays warm and cozy all night.  And though we just have bare stud walls, we set up our new bed. It was so beautiful laying in bed looking out our arched window at a clear star filled night.

  1. I am soooooooooooooo thrilled to hear you finally can sleep with a firm roof over your head and a comfy big bed, and the weather outside will have little effect for a good night sleep!!!!
Do I understand the “necessary plumbing” is available now that water can be had at the higher level? And how exciting to have your own laundry facilities working! Is that located in the old fuel house instead of in the house?
You should be crowing like two roosters on top of their perch for all you have accomplished !! I know there is lots more to be done, but you can do the rest in stages, regardless of weather conditions.
By the way I see you have warmer temps than we. We already have had frost on the pumpkins, and mostly 50-60 temps.
    Love & congrats!

    • Hi Mom,
Thanks for the comment. It has been cool but no frost here yet. However, now the rains have started so that presents a few more challenges.
Having the separate “laundry room” brings back fond memories of the Island.

  2. Again thanks for sharing, you guys have worked your buns off getting this built. Nice to hear your getting to enjoy the benefits of the hard work.

  3. I love the enormous bed! How exciting to be able to wake up in this amazing home that you have made. I’m so thrilled for both of you.

    big love,
